Spoons

I came across this wonderful parable in Collin Pearce’s newsletter (3/12/09) ‘Kick in the Pants’ and thought it worthy of passing on. Easter and Christmas are traditionally times when we reconsider our values so it seems very appropriate right now.

A man won a tour of Hell in a soccer club raffle.

He was fascinated to see groups of people huddled in circles around pots of nourishing stew, the aroma of which filled the air wonderfully. Each person held a beautiful deep spoon almost large enough to hold a full meal in itself. Yet he observed that every person was skinny, bony and weak and totally miserable. Then he saw why. The spoons were fastened to their hands and the spoon handles were so long that the sufferers couldn’t turn their spoons to their mouths.

Suddenly he was whisked away to Heaven.

There he saw exactly the same scene – stew – circles – spoons – same long handles, but the people were all nourished, round, rosy and happy – all laughing and chatting with not a care in the world.

The tour host noticed the tourist’s bewilderment and said, “It takes a while to understand, but if you look closer you’ll see that in Heaven they feed each other.”

My Kick in the Pants for You:
Happiness is about open-heartedness – in the office, on the road, in shops, at home. Try it. Just for a day. And see how many people are already in Hell.

The most useful thing I learned was the rhythm sticks and the many examples of how to use ribbons & scarves.

I enjoyed the activities with sticks, scarves & ribbons.  I found this workshop to be very practical.

Can you help?

I received an email recently from a subscriber in Tasmania requesting ideas for engaging boys, specifically in a religious education class (Christian). As I have not taught RE before, I wondered if any of you had any great ideas I could pass on. I have recommended a few authors who specialise in working with boys, but beyond that, I was not able to be more helpful. Perhaps you can? I look forward to hearing from you.

Paul Dunn – B1G1

I have had a lot of positive feedback about the recent article Creating the WOW! Factor in Your Classroom (issue number 84). If you are interested in attending one of Paul’s WOW! seminars, click on one of the links below.

In case you are not aware, B1G1 is a charity which I support. Every time you buy a Kidz-Fiz-Biz product from my website, a child in Indonesia has access to art and culture education as well as English language support for one day.
